As the climate crisis continues to rage the need to develop efficient alternatives is a major issue that many industries face. Particularly, air travel has seen (SAF) which could reduce greenhouse gas emissions by as much as 20% compared to conventional jet fuel - as a strategy to reach carbon reduction goals and to meet corporate limits.

Enter Dimensional Energy. Based out of New York, the company makes use of carbon dioxide emissions as well as water to produce an environmentally sustainable air fuel (SAF) and is starting to get attention after the company reported that on the 12th of December (Dec.12) the fact that it had closed the $20 million deal as part of a Series A financing round that was comprised of Microsoft's carbon fund.

Speaking about their reason for offering funding, the director of Microsoft's climate innovation fund Brandon Middaugh said in a statement:

"The world is in dire need of immediate and rapid decarbonization in all areas, and Dimensional Energy shows great promise as a cleaner, lower carbon aviation solution, in addition to a reduction in industrial emissions,"

"Microsoft has been an early adopter of sustainable aviation fuel, and believes this market as crucial to global decarbonization. This is why Microsoft's climate-related innovation fund has a strong relationship with Dimensional Energy's efforts as an investor in direct equity."

In addition to the other investors headed by Envisioning Partners, were: United Airlines' sustainable flight fund, RockCreek's smart aircraft futures fund, DSC Investment, Delek US, New York Ventures, and other investors such as Elemental Excelerator and Chloe Capital in helping to raise the total amount to $28 million.

In an interview with TechCrunch, Dimensional Energy founder and CEO Jason Salfi said:

"The extracting and the production of hydrocarbons have caused not only climate change, but also the displacement of indigenous people globally and myriad environmental catastrophes,"

"Dimensional Energy offers a solution of oil derived from the carbon dioxide in water and. Dimensional is committed to sourcing feedstocks in harmony with the environment and communities where plants are built."

Dimensional Energy on the rise

After this latest investment the company announced plans to build a high-tech power-to-liquids fuel plant and the fuel source coming from Lafarge's Richmond Cement Plant located in British Columbia, Canada in collaboration with carbon capture company Svante.

The company's other plans include Dimensional Energy's very first direct-to-consumer (BTC) and BTB (BTB) merchandise, including a carbon-free surf wax, and a vegan fat substitute that is cruelty-free and designed to cater to vegan food producers.

Dimensional Energy's principal customers are freight companies, airlines and chemical firms. In this past year, they signed an agreement with the aircraft maker Boom Supersonic to sell 5 million Gallons of SAF per year for Boom's flight test program.

However, the balancing act between ensuring sustainability while also generating profits can be a challenge, however, Dimensional earns its revenue through contracted offtake agreements and is actively searching for long-term contracts with airlines as well as specialist chemical companies.
